Stage one
Bergen
A night at a design hotel in the Hanseatic harbour, with a private dinner at one of the city's New Nordic restaurants before the morning departure.

The Fjord Railway
How to design one of the world's great rail journeys as a private, four-stage itinerary across western Norway.
Most travellers do Bergen to Flåm in a single day — a packed train, a quick fjord cruise, a coach back. The landscape deserves more.
Our curators design the route as four distinct stages: a night in Bergen, a private carriage across the high plateau, the descent through the Flåm Line, and two nights on Aurlandsfjord with a chartered fjord cruise. The same journey — at the pace it was meant to be experienced.
The itinerary

Stage one
A night at a design hotel in the Hanseatic harbour, with a private dinner at one of the city's New Nordic restaurants before the morning departure.

Stage two
A private carriage across the Hardangervidda plateau — Europe's highest mainline railway. Quiet, panoramic, almost meditative.

Stage three
The 20-kilometre descent from Myrdal to Flåm — waterfalls, gorges and tunnels chiselled by hand. One of the world's great rail journeys.

Stage four
Two nights at a design lodge on the fjord, a private cruise into Nærøyfjord, and a chef's table at a local producer.
Frequently asked
The classic route is the Bergen Railway to Myrdal, then the Flåm Line — a steep, century-old mountain railway descending into Aurlandsfjord. Total journey time is around four hours. We arrange a private carriage and lounge access at both ends.
Yes — the Flåm Line is widely considered one of the most scenic train journeys in the world. The 20-kilometre descent passes waterfalls, gorges and mountain villages otherwise inaccessible by road.
Most travellers stop only for an hour. We recommend at least two nights, ideally at a design lodge on Aurlandsfjord, with time for a private fjord cruise on Nærøyfjord and a chef's table at one of the region's small producers.
May and June for waterfalls at peak flow. September for autumn colour and empty carriages. Winter offers a snow-bound landscape and a quieter, more atmospheric experience — and is increasingly our preferred season.
Tell our curators your dates and preferences. We compose the route by hand — private carriages, chartered fjord cruises, design lodges and dining.
